Get Out Bergslagen
We want to increase knowledge about buck kids as valuable
resource in agriculture, nature conservation and as pets in Bergslagen. During the project period, we will create a goat-friendly network between municipalities, goat owners, landowners and consumers.
About the project
The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge about buck kids as a valuable resource in agriculture, nature conservation and as pets in Bergslagen.
The goal of the project is to create a goat network in Bergslagen between municipalities, goat owners, landowners and consumers.
The goal is also to produce a manual on how to establish a goat business.
The project consists of project management, meetings, workshops, lectures, site visits, coaching, follow-up, documentation and the production of a manual.
More information

The project is exciting in many ways. The goat has potential as a resource, both as a conservationist and a meat animal.
Bergslagen's municipalities have smaller nature conservation areas that need to be kept open – but are too small to have cows.
promote entrepreneurship
”"It's of course heartbreaking when you think about the cute goats that roam the Cowshed and that we almost immediately talk about slaughtering them.".
We at Get Out KB have had goats for several years and we quickly discovered that this issue with goats is a problem for many, especially for goat farmers.
There are not as many boys as girls needed, so thousands of male goats are killed at birth.
Is it done out of spite?
Not really, but the bucks become sexually mature at 3 months of age and then the kids must be separated.
Most people don't have the land or finances to raise the kid goats to slaughter weight.
This is where Get Out comes in. We want to reduce waste of food resources.
So now we have bought goats that walk on municipal land and graze grass and eat hay.
We also don't have land for the 45 kittens, so when the grass runs out in September/October, they will go to a nearby slaughterhouse.
"Since we are new to this and we are not used to eating goat in Sweden, we need help spreading the word that the opportunity exists."”

About the project
The LAG board has chosen to prioritize Get Out Bergslagen with approval as it will in its entirety lead to the achievement of the goals of the local development strategy. Specifically, this is a project that meets goals within the focus area Promoting entrepreneurship in Bergslagen as the goal is to create a network of stakeholders, as well as produce a handbook on how to go about becoming a goat farmer.
The project is exciting in many ways. The goat has potential as a resource, both as a nature conservationist and a meat animal. Bergslagen's municipalities have smaller nature conservation areas that need to be kept open - but are too small to have cows. The project is also part of a solution to food waste, as there is potential for the project to lead to increased interest in eating goat meat. The quality of life increases for the people in Bergslagen as it provides increased well-being to spend time with animals.
The project is considered of public benefit as the aim is to increase knowledge about buck kids as a valuable resource in agriculture, nature conservation and as pets in Bergslagen.
It is the rural residents who will benefit from the project.
