The consumer store in Riddarhyttan

The small consumer museum complements the visitor destination in Riddarhyttan, near Skilasjön and Källfallsbacken. A piece of cooperative history.

About the project

The purpose of the project is to develop the tourism industry in Bergslagen.

The goal of the project is to prepare the Konsumbutiken museum in Riddarhyttan.

The project consists of demolishing floors, installing joists, building floors, walls, ceilings, insulation and electrical installation, and furnishing the
the museum space.

The Leader Method

Collaboration. Riddarhyttan's local history and interest association, together with other associations in the area, wants to develop the leisure and cultural area in Skila outside Skinnskatteberg. The Konsumbutiken will hopefully become a popular destination for those who are curious about the history of the Konsumbutiken and old objects.

Local roots. Many volunteer hours. The enthusiastic working group has been working all summer. They have transformed the interior of the farm building – but without it being visible from the outside. The new museum blends in nicely with the existing environment.

About the project

The LAG board has chosen to prioritize the Konsumbutiken 2025-93 with approval as it will in its entirety lead to the achievement of the goals of the local development strategy. Living conditions in Bergslagen will be strengthened by developing a new visitor destination in Skila.

Through this project, the unique collection of historical consumer items will be able to be displayed to the public and the story of the cooperation can live on for future generations.

What makes this project a good Leader project is the large turnout of associations and companies who together put time into preparing the premises so that it looks like a historic shop on the inside, but does not change on the outside. They will also take care of the museum in the future, together.

Justification for support level: The project is considered to be of public benefit as the aim is to prepare a museum space that welcomes young and old, local residents and guests from far away. It is the rural residents who will benefit from the project.
